A South Korean businessman got so entangled in a woman after many years of marriage that he could not even take care of his wife and children. First the decades-old relationship broke and now he has to give billions of rupees to his wife.
According to the report of South China Morning Post, South Korean billionaire Chey Tae-won was married to Roh So-young. Both were together for about 35 years. Both also have three children. But about 10 years ago it was revealed that Chey Tae-won was having an extra marital affair with a woman. He also has a child from his girlfriend. This thing upset Roh So Young. She immediately decided to divorce Chey Tae-won. The relationship broke down and both have been living separately for the last 10 years.
South Korea’s biggest divorce
Since then the divorce case was going on in the courts. A day earlier, the South Korean High Court ruled in favor of Roh So-Young. It said that Roh So-Young is entitled to a part of billionaire Chey Tae-Won’s property. She should be given 1 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 8333 crore. In 2022, the lower court had asked to give only a much lesser amount than this. The court admitted that not only Chey Tae-Won took his company forward, but Roh So-Young also played a big role in making his immense wealth. Therefore, she is also entitled to 35 percent of the company’s shares. The company’s shares should be considered their joint property. This wealth is so much that it is being described as the biggest divorce in South Korea.
The court estimated his assets at 4 trillion won
Roh So-young is the daughter of former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo. Chey Tae-won is the owner of SK Group, which owns several companies. The court has estimated his assets to be around 4 trillion won. His company SK Inc. is one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers and also has stakes in the telecommunications, chemicals and energy sectors. Chey’s lawyers have said that they will challenge the court’s decision. They say that the court has accepted Roh’s claim unilaterally. On the other hand, the court has clearly written in its decision that Chey has no remorse for his behavior. He did not even behave properly towards his wife. Roh has suffered a lot due to the extramarital affair.
